I know I already said below that Carnage is the biggest bar crawl around - but Summer Carnage is really the major event of the year. People were already queuing in their sleeping bags more than 12 hours before tickets went on sale, and there was a bit of a carnival atmosphere all through the night. On Carnage itself we all headed off in the buses from the Guild, and it was still light! Nice weather too. I dressed up as Bart Simpson - obvious, I hope. My camera battery died after a couple of hours so I only got photos from the first few places. An amazing end to a fantastic year. Updated June 2006.
Having had the guys 'n' gals from Aberdeen University Paintball Society down for the inter-Uni event earlier in March and having a good laugh with them, we decided to make the trek up to visit them. It was a horrible 9-hour drive each way - we actually spent as much time driving as we did being awake in Aberdeen - but well worth the trouble. Despite the horrendous weather and the state of the lake field we were playing in, the paintball itself was great fun, and we had a tired but excellent night out before setting off early on Sunday. We even got to try nasty chip shop deep-fried haggis! Updated March 2006.
Carnage is Birmingham's biggest, craziest and most awesome bar crawl. This term's theme was Intergalactic Carnage, and we certainly looked pretty alien (I should have my hair blue and spiky more often!). Starting in Joe's at the Guild of Students, we boarded Edd and Olly's Simon and Andy's space bus and headed off into town for a night of drunken debauchery. All for a good cause, of course - Carnage is organised by Carnival, the University of Birmingham's RAG (raising and giving) society, and raises thousands of pounds every year. Updated March 2006.
In May 2005, I took a trip down to Milton Keynes for the day to visit Collectormania VII. Apart from various hobbits, wookiees, Sith lords etc., I got to meet the lovely Jolene Blalock (T'Pol from "Enterprise"), Katee Sackhoff (Lt. 'Starbuck' in the new "Battlestar Galactica") and others. I should have taken more photos, but here's what I've got (thanks to Rob for some of them). Updated May 2005.
I was back in London for the Christmas holidays and over the new year period. I was convinced to have a party on New Year's Eve, and was visited over the holidays by my girlfriend Kym and also by Ran, who dropped by for a couple of days. Updated January 2005.
Most people were going home for the Christmas holidays, so we celebrated a bit early. A bunch of us in our accomodation block organised a lovely Christmas dinner, complete with loads of food, drink, cracker pulling and Twister. I also went to the Indi Bar, joining tons of people from the Physics dept for the annual xmas party. Pages: 1, 2, 3, 4 (or use the arrows). Updated January 2005.
Lots happened as usual in November at uni. There was the Ibiza foam party at The Works, the Eggstravaganza (a charity event for Children In Need run by the physics dept.) and the Vale fireworks on the 4th, where there was a big funfair on campus complete with dodgems, candy floss, CircusSoc performing and of course lots of fireworks. We also went out on the town for Jack's birthday. Pages: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Updated January 2005.
Halloween at Uni was a bit mad. First up was Fright Night at the Guild, with Pat Sharpe DJing and a live set from "The Fab Beatles". The next day we had a big party in our block, opening up the two second floor flats to various assorted witches, vampires, zombies etc. Updated October 2004.
This was my response to the constant question "so who have you met at uni?". There were far too many people to keep track of in Freshers' week, so here are all the photos and you can work it out yourselves. Lots of pictures of lots of people and things. Updated October 2004.
This summer my family and I went to America. We had a busy few days in New York before slowing it down a bit in New Orleans over the July 4th period, and finally spent a week in sunny Florida. Here are some of the photos - stay tuned for my pictures from the Kennedy Space Centre (eventually)! Updated August 2004.
It's been two great years in the sixth form at JFS, on top of the five that most of us have spent at the school. In May 2004 we had an emotional last week and day before we all left to go on study leave, in preparation for the dreaded A-Levels. I've done my best to capture some of it in pictures, for posterity, along with a few photos that others have sent me. Pages: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Updated May 2004.
